About
My Story
Norma St Croix, Ph.D.; M.Ed.; F.S.L.C.; B.A.; B.A.Ed.
Dr. St. Croix has over 30 years of successful education experience as a consultant, program specialist, administrator, coach, and teacher in Canada. Provincially she worked as a program specialist developing K-3 mathematics curriculum and as an evaluation consultant creating valid and reliable assessments designed to raise provincial achievement results in mathematics in Newfoundland and Labrador. Dr. St. Croix also played a lead role in implementing the elementary mathematics program through developing training DVDs and online videos. She developed and led professional learning sessions in the following areas; using data to increase student learning, developing valid and reliable assessments, verb needed? effective teaching strategies, and creating and using scoring and performance rubrics to inform instruction.
Dr. St. Croix worked as a research assistant developing the instructional and assessment framework for an early literacy intervention program for students in First Nation schools at the Canadian Research Institute for Social Policy (CRISP) at University of New Brunswick.
Nationally, Dr. St. Croix has worked on numerous development committees including item writing, item reviewing, marking, creating contextual questionnaires for students, teachers, and administrators, and standard setting for mathematics and science as a consultant with Pan-Canadian assessment programs (PCAP).
Dr. St. Croix completed her PhD in Education Studies. Her dissertation was titled Using Data to Inform Instruction: Piloting a Data Literacy Professional Learning Model. Her applied collaborative research used student assessment data and a Response-to-Interventions (RtI) approach to identify and address student literacy learning needs. Her research interests are assessment-informed decision making, early literacy and numeracy instruction, response-to interventions, and teacher education.
Currently she is contracted as a literacy assessment specialist for The Learning Bar, an international education research company based in Fredericton, New Brunswick. Dr. St. Croix is using her expertise to develop assessments, mentor literacy coaches, and lead both professional learning and implementation of the Confident Learners Early Literacy Program in several First Nations schools in Canada.
